A Thanksgiving Lowdown: What to wear and to bake!

It's time to eat until we think we can't eat anymore, take a nap, and then eat some more!
Happy Thanksgiving!
But most importantly next Thursday is about what we are THANKFUL for so... us gals here at Horseshoe feel extremely fortunate to get to spend time helping each of you lovely ladies. We love the interactions and relationships we build each day with so many amazing women.  We truly can't thank you enough!

We put together some of our favorite items that would be great outfits for this coming holiday along with two family dessert recipes that are sure to please.

Oatmeal Cake
Jill's childhood favorite

Ingredients:
1 cup quick oats
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 stick salted butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 cup flour
1 T baking soda
1 T cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Pour boiling water over oats and cover for 20 minutes.  Meanwhile cream butter, sugar and eggs.  Sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture.  Next add the oats and stir.  Pour cake batter into a greased 13x9 baking dish.  Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.

Frosting Ingredients:
5 T butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
4 T evaporated milk

Directions:
Melt butter, brown sugar and milk in a saucepan until sugar dissolves.  Pour over baked oatmeal cake.  Let stand for 15-20 minutes until icing sets.

Mom Andersen's Pecan Pie
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 T salt
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 stick unsalted butter
1 1/2 T vanilla
2 cup pecans (coursely chopped)

Directions:
Heat in a saucepan on medium heat, sugar, salt and dark corn syrup until sugar dissolves. In a separate bowl beat eggs until slightly foamy. Next added butter and vanillla into sugar mixture, then add the pecans.  Last fold eggs into the mixture as it cools.  Pour filling into pie crust of your choice.  Bake for 40 minutes at 325 degrees.
