6 Ways to Rock the Plaid Shirt Trend

Living in the Pacific Northwest Plaid shirts are far from trendy but more of a way of life.  Perhaps it's the look of the all rugged lumberjack or the 90's grunge rockers Kurt and Eddie that makes wearing a plaid button down feel like home.  Either way this beauty of a shirt had us at hello!

Please meet one of our favorite brands, Rails. Not only have they nailed the look by creating rich hues in classic plaid patterns, they have modernized this style by updating the shape to be a little bit menswear-esque while remaining purely feminine.  No longer made of thick, unflattering flannel you'll fall in love with this light weight, flowy, silky textured fabric. Once again we can all be mad for plaid.

We put some of our ladies up to the challenge of how they would rock the Rails Hunter Shirt. Take a peek at the looks they came up with...

Tonight, Tonight
Glamorizing the plaid shirt...this outfit was the most unexpected combination resulting in our favorite new way to sport the plaid shirt.  Layered over, yes, a holiday dress the plaid shirt has been redefined as evening wear.  Married with the right accessories, a tie front leather belt, a messy chain necklace, layers of bracelets, burly socks, booties and alas an artisan handbag and Voila-instant glamour.  Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight...

Even Flow
The vibe here is sporty-bohemian-grunge. Stripes with plaid and pink with red...all sound like things fashion might say we shouldn't do?  Well we think it all looks really rad together. Simply take a stripe maxi dress layer over your favorite pop-of-color tank and tie up that plaid shirt.  Adorn yourself with a long statement necklace, a slouchy leather bag and your sneakers and let your day begin.  Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies...

 Smells Like Teen Spirit
Wayne and Garth would be proud with this interpretation of using the plaid shirt as one of many layering pieces. A graphic tee as your underpinning with the plaid shirt becoming your sleeves, finished with a sleeveless denim shirt to give the effect of a vest- is pure 90's styling.  Naturally topping off the look with some sleek shades, chunky metal jewelry and some Chuck Taylor's.  With the light's out, its less dangerous. Here we are now, entertain us...

Vasoline
Simply using a maxi skirt as a strapless dress and the plaid shirt as your topper you now have an outfit that goes from work to play effortlessly. Carry along your favorite denim jacket for your layer of warmth once that sun goes down.  Accessorizing your look is as easy as adding layers of necklaces, a stack of bracelets, a statement ring and some saucy booties.  it isn't you, isn't me, search for things you can't see...

Spoonman
Classic 90's rendition with the plaid shirt as your easy throw on-open jacket look.  Rock it with high waisted, straight leg jeans, a chunky pendant necklace and some strappy clogs.  Oh and don't forget to throw on your vintage shades.  Feel the rhythm with your hands, steal the rhythm while you can...

Come As You Are
Easy everyday look with your plaid shirt worn simply as a blouse.  Tuck into a flowing skirt and add some funky printed wedge sandals and your set to seize the day.  Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be...

Stand By Your Brand: Meet Veronica M.

Meet the lovely Veronica of her eponymous collection, Veronica M. Clothing. Born in Lima Peru, she moved to Los Angeles at age seven. Veronica recalls memories from childhood of fabric shopping with her Mother and helping cut patterns. The influence of bright colors and bold prints always stuck with her and is now synonymous with her brand. In 1996 Veronica started making mini skirts out of her Mom's garage and selling them at swap meets. Demand began to grow for her designs which led to the launch of her first store in 1997. Naturally after much success she began receiving interest from other retailers which spurred her on to develop a wholesale division. Currently Veronica has five boutiques in Southern California along with a demanding wholesale business.

Looking back, she says it was certainly a struggle to start her own business. She had no formal education in business or fashion design however what she did have was a strong sense of ambition, courage and talent.

Veronica believes that every woman should look and feel her best...
